This is how it all started…
In the quaint suburb of Brookhaven, nestled within the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, my journey unfolded in the tapestry of 1993. Weekends held a ritual for me, one that led me to the serene embrace of Brookhaven Park. On a particular day, the fates conspired to introduce me to a homeless man, a chance encounter that would forever change the course of my life.
Our conversations danced beneath the dappled sunlight filtering through the park’s foliage, weaving tales of his life’s winding, tumultuous path. In the midst of our dialogues, a revelation emerged like a hidden gem from the depths of his soul – he was not impoverished by circumstance, but rather, he had lost his way in the labyrinth of life, a tragic consequence of losing his beloved wife.
Moved by his story and inspired by a shared connection forged in the park, I found myself returning to those hallowed grounds each weekend, bearing sustenance for both body and spirit. In gratitude, he would often utter those heartfelt words, “you are my angel,” a testament to the profound impact of our newfound friendship.
It was during these moments of compassion and understanding that a vision began to take shape within me. With unwavering determination, I resolved to transform this spark of goodwill into a beacon of hope for others facing similar hardships. Thus, the Red Bag Foundation was born, a conduit for spreading love, happiness, and hope to every soul enduring the hardships of homelessness.
In the tapestry of life, our encounters may seem random, but it is in these chance meetings that we discover our true purpose. In the suburbs of Brookhaven, my destiny intertwined with that of a homeless man, and together, we embarked on a journey to kindle a brighter future for those in need.
